AI PC Fleet Operations 2026: NPU Scheduling, Security Baselines, Support Economics

AI PC deployment is shifting from pilot to procurement, and the hard part is fleet consistency across heterogeneous endpoints.

Define workload classes first: on-device only for sensitive drafting, local-first with approved cloud fallback for general productivity, and cloud-default for high-compute generation.

Then enforce endpoint baselines: runtime integrity checks, signed model updates, local cache encryption, DLP hooks on prompt/output, and health-based auto-disable policy.

NPU contention is a real issue. Conferencing, indexing, and assistants compete for acceleration. Use policy scheduling with priority windows, background concurrency caps, and battery-aware defer rules.

Measure outcomes with operational economics: ticket volume per 1000 endpoints, MTTR for AI incidents, battery impact in real usage, and cloud fallback spend per user cohort.

AI PC strategy works when hardware capability, security policy, and support operations are planned together, not as separate initiatives.
